I can connect successfully end to end (from either end) ie. if I pick up the
9000 handset and dial 1000 then pick up the 1000 handset the connection is made
and I can talk to myself. Just can't seem to make the handset ring.
I hiffed a meter on the handset end and can see 30VDC but alas no noise. If I
hiff the meter on the wall outlet I get 50VDC. Suspect JGK is right: the
handset is outside the volt range of an FXS module.

Just a swag but what happens if you set up the connection in reverse? Do
you get the same results?
