I am studying right now for the Design CCIE, and I can tell you that it is dece
ptively difficult. I know of several R/S CCIEs (myself included) that have fai
led the CCIE Design qualifier multiple times....
Without breaking NDA (since I was complaining about this earlier...), I can con
firm that the link http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/625/ccie/certifications/des
ign_blueprint.html is indeed a good blueprint. If you know everything on that
list backward and forward, you'll pass - no problem.
The problem is with the sheer amount of material. For example, let's look at j
ust the first five books:
1.Enhanced IP Services for Cisco Networks
2.Cisco CCIE Fundamentals: Network Design and Case Studies (Cisco Press)
3.CCIE Professional Development : Advanced IP Network Design (White/Retana/Slic
e,Cisco Press)
4.Designing Campus Networks (Quinn-Andry and Haller, Cisco Press)
5.Top-Down Network Design (Oppenheimer, Cisco Press)
All of these are fantastic resources - and not just for CCIE Design - but that'
s easily 3500+ pages of material. And that's just the start. If you printed o
ut all of the other links on that blueprint, I'd guess that you'd have somewher
e in the 10,000+ page range.
So just memorize all that and you'll be fine :-)
The other problem is that many questions can start bordering into the dogmatic
side of networking. Lots of phrases beginning with "What is the *best* way..."
I'm dying to know how they're going to do the lab - have you seen the equipment
list for that?
