Help!
I've been working through the IOS bridging and IBM network solutions book
and things are going ok, but I have been unable to come up with a good
validation test for a SR/TLB config. I set up a topology that connects two
Ethernets via a token ring, like this:
R1/e0----R2/e0-R2/tok0---R3/tok0-R3/E0---R4/e0
Logical config looks like this: (PR=pseduo ring BG=bridge group, B=SRB
Bridge RG=ring group)
PR101-BG1-RG100-B1-R20-B1-RG200-BG1-PR201
the only "real" ring is ring 20. 100 and 200 are ring groups and 101 and
201 are the Psuedo rings for SR/TLB
all routers are running DEC spanning tree on their Ethernet interfaces.
when I check the config using the LNM spantree, bridge, and token
controllers commands everything looks ok. Routing results in end to end
communication without any problems.
The doc says I can't bridge any routable protocols across this topology so
ping is out. I tried LAT and I see the frames making it to the bridge
tables of R2 and R3 but RIFs are not being generated and communication is
not occuring. My theory is to validate the config I need a non routable
protocol, that runs on top of LLC2, that can be used to communicate between
routers. you can do SDLC test frames, but apparently you can't do Ethernet
LLC test frames. If i can just get some explorers and some test frames
flowing, I would be happy.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.
