When working in the lab I always change the telnet timeout to try and
save myself precious seconds when I actually take the real exam.

   The command is:
   ip tcp synwait-time <5-300>

This will affect all connections made from the router so take that
into account when you have telnet connections that are made as part of
   another protocol.

Does anyone know how to change the Telnet timeout, so when your telnet
is failing you don't have to wait 30+ seconds for it to time out?

Bonus Question(not that important): Is there a way to break out of a
   ping?

   thanks
