Passed on my first attempt today to my total shock. I didn't plan on
passing this time at all because I felt I just wasn't ready. I think my
lack of stress to pass was a major contribution to my passing.
My background is a career changer with 8 months actual experience. I took a
year off and went through the "netgun" program which has about every class
cisco has, plus a few. I bought a 7 router, 2 switch lab mostly off ebay
and went thru as many labs as I could, while working crazy hours like all
you do in this industry. I was going to "experience" the lab this time,
Take the ECP class in October (which I have to cancel now), work the rack
every night till 1:00 am, and then pass the lab sometime in December. It
was a good plan I thought. Now I plan to sell my rack and try and find
where I left my life!!
My recommended books are the standards: Doyle, Halabi, Caslow. I also
recommend the Advanced BGP class taught by Geotrain Canada. That class took
all the mystery out of BGP for me. The class also gives you hands on
experience with all the sceniros: confederations, route reflectors,
communities, clusters, etc. I would also recommend ANEW 1 for learning IGP
stuff with IP, IPX and Appletalk. Forget about ANEW 2. Also, the CIT
class is very important.
My biggest recommendation is to RELAX!!! My lack of stress helped me more
than anything I think. I got in good repore with the proctor right off the
start. We kidded around a little and she was very helpfull at a crucial
moment.
Other things to be wary of is time!!!! As I pasted in my boiler plate
configs, I worked on my map. I use a TON of alias commands to save time
typing. I worked on stuff I knew first, then worked on the tough questions.
Another thing: READ all questions carefully!!! Read the whole test before
configuring or drawing your map. That saved me some time as well. I think
I used the CD rom once. I understood most of the technologies fairly well
and when I didn't know the the syntax, I used the good old question mark.
The question mark can find just about everything if you look in right
places.
Before this email gets too long I want to thank all the members of the list.
This list WAS and IS one of the most valuable sources of information there
is. I plan on contributing more now that I have more time. Special thanks
to Paul Bourghese for providing us all with this wonderfull forum. You da
man Paul !!!
Thanks again everyone!!!!
