Hi Stylen,

area range command is useful only for the summarisation at area boundaries.
It will not summarise external routes. If you want to summarise external
routes use "ip summary address" command in the ASBR.
Also when you use "area range" command for summarisation you need to create a
null route for the summarised route.
Hope this helps

Hey everyone,

Will the area range command summarize external routes as well? i have a
network with multiple subnets, some of the subnets are being redistributed
from eigrp into ospf. on the ABR i used the area range command, but the routes
tagged as external are still being sent into the backbone. any ideas?
