Actually, this is not generally the case. Take, for example, a company
that doesn't manage its on network, and its managed at such&such center.
Most all implementations of this will be setup for dialin access to either
a switchbox or terminal server. While I have plenty of access to the
console, I surely don't have access to a power switch.
Currently the only real viable option I know if is dialin->switch
box->remote reset power strip.
I'd like a way to reset a router via SNMP, any takers? ;)
