It is simple,

Your ethernet interface has it's own mac address- you can not ping 1.a.a.a
because the eth interface does not use this address - try sh ipx int e 0 and
cut and paste the ethernet address and try to ping ! It will work

Subject: IPX Ping

Hello Group

Why can I not ping my own ethernet interface ?

The interface is up, and I can ping my serial interface
