A cat 6k looks and feels just like a 5k. Same
commands and interface. It offers QOS and some other
features not on the 5K. If you have an MSFC installed
on the SUP, this is just like an RSM but sits as a
daughter card on the sup mode you can route between
you VLANS. It is accessed using the session 15/16
command. If MFSC is on the sup in slot one then it is
session 15.
The Cat 85XX is the box that has each port look and
feel like a router port but moves traffic at layer 2
speeds. It uses CEF for caching.
