Dave,
  Disregard, the ipx maximum-hops command only allows you to increase it,
the options are 16-254... Close but no cigar... I asked a couple of
colleagues and they can't think of how you could lower the maximum hop
count either, although we don't work with ipx much. Of course, you can
lower the hop count as William mentioned between two specific networks by
using a tunnel but I don't believe that's what you wanted.
