John/Jon,
Funny thing - this is the first time I've heard NHRP come up
as a discussion topic on the list or for the lab exam at
all. Although I suppose it's a legitimate topic/technology
- it has features in IOS.
There was alot of hooplah surrounding NHRP with ATM,
initially for CLIP (RFC1577). The ATM Forum took the NHRP
concepts and basically turned it into MPOA for LANE. MPOA
lets you take a LANE client (which is really an MPOA Client
or MPC) and give it the ability to form cut-through SVCs to
other MPC's in other layer 3 subnets. It's essentially SVCs
across L3 boundaries.
What was the Next Hop Server (NHS) in NHRP is the MPOA
Server (MPS) in MPOA. It forwards requests for those
cut-through SVCs in the form of NHRP messages.
You know MPOA is working when you see SVCs formed between
MPCs in different L3 networks.
If you come take CATM from me, I have a really good MPOA lab
:)
If anyone knows of a non-ATM NHRP implementation, I'd be
interested in the details.
Thanks,
Scott
ps - What is the 'section 12.1' you refer to?
