Hi Earl.

Sometimes it may seem as if no one has been passing. I have been following
the trends of not just this certification, but all vendor certifications for
about 5 years now. The ccie , since 1997, has been passing just about 20
persons each week. That averages out to about 1000 per year.
The number 6012 which is where they are at now is right on the money so to
speak. If you consider that #3500 was right around March 1998, that would
make 2512 in 27 months (roughly 90 without a calc), give or take a few
weeks.

The first few years from 1993-1997 the average was only about 10 per week.
I expect in the next year the average to rise, to at least 25 or as hgh as
30, since these certs sort of snowball most of the time. I doubt if the
average of 20 will drop. As more web pages are developed, study groups, ecp
courses become available etc. This is usually the case with most
certifications, the ccie being more difficult because of several reasons,
but we should see the average increase I think, at least for R & S.

So, sometimes it may seem as though there is no light at the end of the
tunnel, but there is most of the time. Everyone I know who has not given up
has made it, it just takes perseverance. Beware that though, after it is
completed, there more than likely will be some other test of some sort
coming up in the future, at least that does not seem to change.

Keep on straight ahead, Mike
