I know for a fact, that this tutorial does not work. I tried it in the lab
and the ports do not join the vlans. After selecting the port and pressing
return it just comes back with the default-TrCRF. Step-by-step - NO GO! Is
there some kind of admin mode with higher powers you need to enter first?
There is a trick to configuring these switches and I have not figured out
what the trick is. Also, I was not the only person stumped. Additionally,
after having done a clear NVRAM and doing a reset of the box, it does not
come up in a initial state that allows two To0 interfaces connected to the
switch to communicate.
What is with this switch?

Subject: TokenRing Switching
Hi Guys,
Here is some tips on Catalyst 3920 TokenRing Switch:
1) According to the configuration guide, with default configuration the
switch
is supposed to be autosensing speed and duplex mode of the conncetd routers.
That is if you really don't want more than one vlan in your network the
switch
installation is supposed to be plug and play.
But this is not the case in reality. For some cisco router models like
Cisco4500 it deos not detect the duplex mode properly. Infact a half duplex
attached router port it detects as a full duplex one. Remedy is go to port
configuration mode and ensure that the duplex mode is properly detected,
otherwise set it manually from there.
2)To creat a couple of TokenRing VLANS two emulate two tokenrings, one don't
need to be bothered about the bridging modes and STP modes , the default
should work. The shorest way to creat two vlans is to exactly follow the
tutorial whose link is given below. Again check and make sure your duplex
mode:

.htm
If you got any doubts on making two TokenRing VLANS work let me know
regards
Muthu
