This is the way that I understand it. There are two types of broadcasts in
token ring switching/bridging. You have Single Route Explorer packets (SRE)
and All Routes Explorer packets (ARE). Since you have these two types you
need two types of vlans. You have a TrBRF and a TrCRF. An SRE will only
traverse the TrCRF and an ARE will traverse all TrCRF's in a single TrBRF.
To answer your question of

What forms a TokenRing VLAN?

1) A TrCRF with many ports attached to it.
2) One or more TrCRFs with a parent TrBRF
Well....Both :). Really you need to be concerned with the TrCRF. That is
what is going to separate the rings from each other. It's what I would
equate an ethernet vlan to.

Here is a dump of my config. I am not sure that it will help you. You
really need to know how to navigate the menues.

Hi,

I am studying Catalyst 3900 TokenRing switches.

What forms a TokenRing VLAN?

1) A TrCRF with many ports attached to it. 2) One or more TrCRFs with a parent TrBRF.

I am confused about which one will be a Logical IP subnet. The config giude of 3900 does not explain this.

Can anyone give me some sample configs. I could't find any examples on the DOC CD.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mohan.
