Kent, think of it this way. The FXO port on a router looks like a phone
to a PBX or the CO. The FXS port on the router looks like a PBX or a Switch
to the phone, modem or fax. FXO recieves the ring and digits from the CO or
PBX. It works in tandem with an FXS card. The call from the CO comes into
the FXO card, who receives the digits, looks in his call plan, and connects
the call out his FXS port to a phone.
I was confused with this for a while and had to read the CVoice text a
few times.
As far as your PBX line in from the CO, you most likely have a digital
line in already. Most PBX nowdays have gone the digital route. Ask your PBX
guy.
Yes, the phone company can give you a digital link into your PBX if you
don't have one.
I took the CVoice CCNP specialization test today and it was very
difficult, but I passed. Of course that means that I am now certified to go
into a customer account and totally screw up his phone system!
Still a CCIE wannabe. Maybe someday.............

CCNP, CCNP Voice, CCIE wannabe!(and about to get spanked at RTP!)
