A more common use is in FXO <-> FXS, sometimes called "OPX replacement"
FXO port connected to a C.O. line or PBX extension, when the line rings,
the FXO configured as a PLAR will ring a far end FXS port. (If not
configured as PLAR, the FXO port will answer the ringing line and deliver
dial tone.)
Or the reverse...
FXS port connected to a phone goes off hook, PLARed to a distant FXO port,
pulls dial tone from a remote C.O. (or PBX).
