Private Line Automatic Ringdown (PLAR) saves you from
having to dial extra digits.

Simple example- let's say you have one MC3810 with:

voice port 1/1 as FXS
voice port 1/2 as FXO
The FXS port has a phone (config'ed as ext. 1234)
The FXO port is connected to the PSTN.
Say the PSTN number is 555-1212.

The pertinent config info is:

dial-peer voice 1 pots
        destination-pattern 1234
        port 1/1

voice-port 1/2
        connection plar 1234

OK, so somebody dials up your 3810 by calling 555-1212.
The 3810 will immediately answer and then ring extension
1234. Without the "plar" on port 1/2, the user would
have been presented with a second dial tone and would
have had to manually dial "1234" to get to that extension.
So it's like a short-cut.
