Windows hyperterminal has the "transfer" pull down menu... choose
"send a file"... the combo box (if there is one) will allow you select
xmodem. If not, the only option is xmodem.
As far as uploading it, I've never done that... I assume that you use
hyperterminal to get the router to a point where it tells you "start
sending xmodem NOW"... when you get to that point.. it will likely
start echoing weird characters to the screen while it waits for YOU to
start that xmodem transfer.
It will take a while! You might be better off booting from the "boot
rom" on the router... limited support, but you DO get the ability to
transfer the data over TFTP and ethernet/tokenring (if you have such
an interface on your router)... if you get creative... you can use a
serial line and a default route to use another router to get to your
TFTP server.
