GTE uses Lucent (formerly Ascend, formerly Cascade) Switches. These switches a
re very stable and the NMS (Naviscore) is the best I've seen. Newbridge, Fore
and Cisco have a long ways to go before their NMS's get to the level of Lucent'
s Naviscore.
Telco's don't pay very well. Our switch administrators are making mid 40K. Se
nior administrators are making high 50k and low 60k. Even though Lucent does a
better job, the pay isn't there. Stick with Cisco.
