When doing BGP confederations can part of the network use confederations and
part not?
IE:
R1, R2, R3 are using full mesh IBGP AS 6 routing exchanges fine looks great.
R4, R5, R6 want to use an internal AS of 1024 but also want to be in same AS
as R1 R2 R3.
R3 has a Serial link to R4 this is the only connection between the two
groups.
R4 peers full mesh with R4 and R5 in AS 1024 with a confederation ID of 6.
Routing updates work within the group. R3 peers to R4 using R4 as AS6. R4
peers to R3 using R6. The will peer but no routes are exchanged. R4 views
the link as internal, R3 views the link as internal. Adding the command BGP
confederation peer 6 to R3 still shows R4 as external but under common
administration but now they will not peer. Is the a way to make this work?
Remember R3 does not know about the confederations on R4, R5, and R6.
Thanks,
