Hi,
What u have observed is correct. If u redistribute between two routing
processes on a single ASBR, then the ASBR needs to be running both the routing
protocols. In ur case RIP and OSPF. The router would know that an OSPF learnt
route need not be injected back into the OSPF routing process.
However if u were redistributing at multiple points, i.e. if u had more
than one ASBR then routes learnt from one routing protocol may be redistributed
back to it through the other ASBR. In such cases we would need to configure
some mechanism (like distribute-list filter) to prevent this problem.
