Hi folks, boy am I glad to be here. :-)

A little about myself:

Name: Chad J. Marsh
Age: 29 1/2 (really)
Home: Puyallup, WA (about 30 min south of Seattle)

I have been in the communications industry for about 9 years, primarily
as a technician, 7 years of which I have been a PBX installer/programmer
on Fujitsu and Northern Telecom PBX's. From late '89 to late '96, I
worked for a company called CNR Inc., a Fujitsu PBX distributor in Kent,
WA. From Nov. 96 to present I work for the Tacoma School District in
Tacoma, WA, where my title is Communications/Network Technician. Here I
maintain a 60+ location WAN of voice and data, with shared/channelized
T1(s) from each location, coming in via OC-3/DS-3 to our Central Admin.
building, where it is distributed to our main PBX and backbone router on
a large Newbridge 3645 DACS. I maintain all of the voice, and the
physical layer topology for the WAN, but am only the backup person on
the routers, which is fine because unfortunately for me, they are all
Bay Networks. I also maintain several videoconferencing systems, voice
mail etc.
My first exposure to Cisco routers was in Nov. '98, when I took a class
sponsored by the state's K-20 Cooperative, for self support of our side
of their state-wide data network for educational institutions.
This class just happened to be a 1-week customized composite of the ICRC
and ACRC courses, given by Geotrain.
The instructor, Kip Peterson, was excellent. I learned much in that one
week, and after seeing the Geotrain catalog, and hearing the stories
about being a CCIE, decided that was for me. I had been coasting along
on my state job long enough to know that although I was always busy, my
mind was no longer being challenged, and my opportunity for advancement
was about nonexistent. Making about 50K/yr was about the top of the
voice ladder, unless I wanted to be in sales.
Anyway, since that time I have aggressively pursued Cisco and
Internetworking knowledge and certifications, and in just 7 1/2 months,
here I am! My lab is scheduled for October 4-5th, in San Jose.
Also, it looks like I have a new job at the end of the month, with
Sarcom, a Cisco Gold partner.

My track record to date:
12/08/98 - Passed DCN 87% (got CCDA)
12/30/98 - Passed CCNA 91% (got CCNA)
02/03/99 - Passed CLSC 88%
03/01/99 - Passed CIT 87%
03/26/99 - Passed ACRC 76%
04/12/99 - Passed CMTD 83% (got CCNP)
05/27/99 - Passed CCIE 77%
07/09/99 - Taking CVOICE
10/04/99 - Taking CCIE Lab

May try to work CID in there somewhere, time permitting.

My home lab consists of:
(1) 19" rack, bolted to the floor (wife loved that one)
(1) 2501
(3) 2503
(1) 2504
(1) 2509
(1) 2522
(2) CSU/DSU
(1) MSAU
(2) Hubs
(8) Back-2-back 3' cables
(1) Fujitsu PBX with ISDN/Analog ports (on loan)
(1) WS-X5213A 12 port 10/100 card for Catalyst, still trying to find a
switch to plug it into :)
Seriously, if anyone knows where I can pick up a Cat chassis/ 1 PS/
Supervisor I, for around $2000, let me know.

Well, once again, I'm glad to be here, and look forward to
participating.

Regards,

Chad Marsh
