Has anyone successfully run the Juniper vMX on Cisco VIRL?
I've gotten the vMX to boot in VIRL, and I'm using virtio for network
interfaces. Unicast seems to work between VMs, but I'm getting flaky
multicast behavior.
Specifically, OSPF hellos don't seem to be making it from the interface to
the Junos control plane.
Based on this topology:
vMX1-em1-----em1-vMX2
I find tracing OSPF hellos via Junos, that each vMX only sees their own
outbound OSPF hellos onto the wire. However, if I drop back into the
FreeBSD shell and run tcpdump, I can see hellos inbound and outbound. And
actually, by running tcpdump simultaneously on both hosts, OSPF establishes
an adjacency. It appears if the interface is not in promiscuous mode the
Junos control plane doesn't see the multicast hellos.
I found a situation noted in someone's install guide for an Olive image,
although it refers to a different virtual nic type.

"Multicast Traffic doesnbt pass on Intel GigE Cards
The GigE cards donbt seem to pass multicast traffic. Running monitor
traffic interface shows zero received mcast packets. This will obviously be
an issue when running any routing protocol that uses multicast for HELLOs,
etc.
There is somewhat of a workaround (at least with the fxp cards) and that is
to put the interface into promiscuous mode by either running tcpdump(8)
from the shell or using the command monitor traffic interface."
Has anyone successfully used VIRL to run vMX topologies? Was anything
similar encountered?
