VIRL is a nice and shiny Web frontend (at the moment). but not a new
product.
The NX-OS part does not support L2, and it was used by cisco internally
since a few years (did use it in a cisco partner cloud lab around 4 years
ago)
IOSv was already released as part of the OnePK Strategy, and also it does
not support all the features of a "full blown" IOS Router.
The CSR routers do not need VIRL to run (if you download the image from the
Cisco Webpage directly) and if you use CSR without VIRL you do not have the
15 Node limitation.
In case they ever add a good software switch (maybe with full duplex
interfaces) it could become a cool product though.
