What identifying information do you have about the switch? Is it part of a stack, do you have the stack mac, do you have the base mac, do you have an IP address, do you know of any clients connected to it? Are you taking backups of the switch?

As for tools, you could use RANCID backups to find the serial number, base mac, ip address, and other items that might help you identify it. If you wanted to see a visual representation of where it was connected and a somewhat automated network discovery, you could use netdot. Both tools assume a level of *nix knowledge.

If you provide more information about why you're not able to find it, besides being a large network, someone may be able to help you more.
