RE: BootP

Well technically you would need to use the ip helper-address with a directed
broadcast address for the destination subnet like 10.10.10.255 and configure
the "no ip directed-broadcast" command. Sorry again. I'm working on
multiple things at once and think I answered this question a little too
early this morning.

You are correct Carlos. I was thinking about when you use the "ip helper
address" command. Without using the "ip helper address" command the bootp
message itself is simply a broadcast message. Sorry for the confusion.

Why do you say "directed" broadcasts ? Theu are just broadcasts AFAIK.

messages since as I mentioned they are simply directed broadcasts and the
only thing the IOS allows you to do with these messages is convert them to
unicast as I mentioned earlier.

A bootp message is just a directed broadcast so it will stay within a
broadcast domain (VLAN) unless you change it to a unicast with the "ip
helper address" command.
