BGP route valid state

Hi,
just FYI, after years of eluding why cisco says "valid" means NH is
reachable, but "show ip bgp" thinks otherwise, I decided to give it
another try (at finding what valid really means).

With some help, it seems (tests back up this) that "valid" (that
dreaded asterisk in the first char of the BGP route list) means "not
remembered for the sake of dampening".

So when there is no asterisk, the route actually is not there, it is
just a placeholder for the flaps (and the penality). You will also see
an 'h' next to it (i.e. second char of the route list).
