voice is moving toward full collaberation products that leverage existing
devices (android, iphone, ipad, notebook pc) combining presence, IM, voice,
video, & screen share together into the same application. I would argue
that traditional voice also evolving. to support needs for todays mobile
workers, it is likely they will want to register more than just a phone to
coporate extension. having the ability to take/make calls/im/video/screen
share through any device is becoming more the expectation and Cisco has
that covered as well. This trend is reasoning behind introducing the CCIE
Collaberation. Many cycles have been spent unifying communcications and
this goes far beyond just voice. With respect to running over wifi, 3850
and 4500 w/sup 8 perform MQC for both wired and wifi traffic. Again, WLC is
local due in part to need for application visibility. QoS for both wired
and wifi being a motivator.
All that said, phones can be wired based on preference but would argue
that with intorducation of 802.11AC and converged wireless access,
prioritizing voice of the air is less of a concern as it was in years past.
