Arguments asside, general questions can only recieve general responses:
If you already have your CCNP but not your CCIE in hand, I would suggest
you find experience as soon as possible - that real world experience will
actually help foster better understanding and retention of your CCIE
studies.
I cant speak at all about the Italian employment situation but I was fairly
recently looking for a career change myself and knowing the local market is
key to managing your expecations and understanding your competition.
Investigate local job advertisements and at unemployment numbers for the
ICT sector and read news about some of the larger companies and government
agencies that operate there - if it appears that people are getting laid
off, you may find you are competing against a skilled and experienced
talent pool. Experience without certifications will generally beat
certifications without experience but experience with certifications is
great but having someone in an organisation that can vouch for you is best
- work on your human networking - If you have been involved in educating
students, surely some of them could act as an introduction into the
companies they work for even if it's a pure academic environment, some
people study and work.

Adam
