When you run the install the system performs a software upgrade check. Part if
this check includes a report that shows whether the upgrade is disruptive or
not. It then gives you an option to proceed with the upgrade or to cancel
out.
In Service Software Update (ISSU) is the Nexus 7k feature that allows the
chassis to upgrade without disruption.
Dual supervisors are required to utilize ISSU.
If you have to upgrade line card firmware then it will require a reboot of the
line card.
The upgrade report I mentioned earlier will show a list of all the line cards
in the chassis, what their current firmware release is, what the new firmware
version the line card will be upgraded to and whether or not it will be
disruptive.
