ip ospf passive interface

Hi

I have a nexus switch and i want to disable ospf on a particular interface. I want to know the exact difference between "ip ospf passive-interface" and "ip ospf shutdown"
I know that in passive interface routing updates will be suppressed and hello packets wont be sent and the neighbor will be down. in both the options the neighbors will be down so i want to know the context where we use these commands..can anyone help?
