I second Joe's response.

Might I suggest to wait to take the written until you are just about ready
to take the lab. Otherwise, you'll end up like so many of us with a
written exam close to expiring. You don't want that as a reason to rush
into the lab. Nor do you want to have to keep re-taking it while you
study. I wish I had that piece of advice a year and a half ago.
