Subject: Nexus 5K vPC Peer link 1Gb over OM2 Fiber

Is it possible to create a vPC peer link on a pair of 5500 using 2 bundled 1Gb links. I am aware the documentation mentions 10Gb only. Do you get any sort of error message when you try to use 1Gb? Has anyone tried it?

The reason I ask, and I know this is a long shot, is that we are planning to install 2 Nexus 5500 at our core/distribution layer and use the vPC feature. The 2 peers will be roughly 340m between each other and will be connected via an OM2 (50/125) MMF. The standard SFP-10G-SR SFP+ only supports a max distance of 26m over OM2 so is out of the question. I see a SFP-10G-LRM will support up to 220m and was hoping would stretch to 340m as these figures are usually on the conservative side. The SFP-10G-LRM is not mentioned in the SFP compatibility matrix for the Nexus 5K but I have seen some postings of people using it.

Does anyone have any experience with the Nexus 5K and SFP-10G-LRM SFP or can suggest any other options or is the only option to upgrade to OM4 fiber.

Many thanks
Ian
