@ Narbik. The biggest difference was a matter of time... 1000's more
lab hours. Tons more use of GNS3 in 30+ router topologies. Seeing how
the technologies married up brought many of the features to life. It
helped make concepts stick. Also a willingness to go back to basics
if I really wasn't understanding the concepts.

A couple game day pointers. When I got to config section I did show
run and copied all to notepad. When config is that bare, it is easy to
point out initial faults. I also spent more time configuring in
notepad, verifying work and then entering into the terminal. I was
much more conservative with my time. This time around I finished with
time to triple check my configurations. I would take a 10 minute break
before each check and I caught quite a few errors even on the last
check.

Summing it up. Timing was everything. I was in over my head for sure
on first attempt. Last 1.5 years spent filling in those gaps.

Big thanks to INE for the San Jose bootcamp. Sitting front and center
for 2 weeks with Brian Dennis is a game changer. I sat next to super
sharp guy in the cable industry. He would work through some scenarios
in the a.m. before class. He watched how I was attempting them and he
would question every command I entered into terminal. He saw me
throwing out show commands without really analyzing first the results
of the show. At one point he stopped me with comment

" Sometimes you think you are better than you really are...."

It came from someone I respected. I took it to heart. I worked more on
efficiency. It became more just a test than a fire drill...

This final attempt, I was relaxed because I knew how hard I had
prepared. That includes previous sits in San Jose and all time spent
studying for those. I was sharp because I got great sleep night
before. This time I was ready as the last few months have been
relentless round the clock labbing. I Lead the pack into testing room
on way in and was first with hands off keyboard for verifications by
days end.
