bgp neighbor and ISL trunk

hello...
So i have this topology.

R1-------SW1----(TRUNK ISL)-----SW2

On R1 I have on the physical interface the ip 10.10.10.1 and on SW2 over vlan 10, ip 10.10.10.2
when setting up a e-bgp neighbor from R1 to SW2.... if using dot1q on the trunk the neighbor comes up, but when I use ISL it does not.

Could you tell me why is this happening?
