ipv6 enable

Hi all, do we really need to configure ipv6 enable under the interface when
configuring dynamic routing on IPv6 enabled router. I am running ospf v3
which workjs with and without ipv6 enable interface command. Appreciate if
some one could expalin whats the pupose of this command.
