Only edge is "name only" for what would "STAY" a port fast port (if a PPDU is never received on that port :)

Try it - you need to specify spanning-tree portfast (interface) or spanning-tree portfast default (global).

You can be sure what is and isn't with

Debug spanning-tree events

And finally

Show spanning-tree interface detail

(look for portfast there once everything is converged)

thanks

Normal is just a normal operational STP port. Edge is basically a new way to say portfast.
