RE: IPv6 for Websites

We work with customers of the big banks - they are barely able to get the basics working in IPv4 - database and tick connectivity - so I don't think they are looking to get PI space from arin any time soon... we noticed also we could not get PI space from arin (even a /20) and had to settle with multiple /24's from our upstream ISP's.

The best way to get a /20 I was told was to buy a company that has one :(

Hey Joe,

This is an interesting perspective. Because, while I agree with your underlying premise, the customer made a requirement of IPv6. We are going to be seeing a lot more of this. I recently requested both ARIN IPv4 and
IPv6 space. Our IPv4 request was denied with request to provide a listing of all of our current allocations. Our IPv6 request for a /44 was immediately approved with a suggestion to get a /32.

We will probably get a lot more requests for IPv6 now that process is easier than it is for IPv4 allocations. I think we will be working on an Internet with an identity crisis for a long time to come. Has your business received any IPv6 requests? If not, what are your thoughts on solutions that include NAT64/DNS64, or 6-to-4 proxies, yuck?

Your carrier needs to route IPv6 for you...

Here's a hint: IPv6 was created to boost IT companies bottom line... its not needed, never was needed, never will be needed...

99% of companies (or more) use nat... entire clusters of home internet users can also use nat.

The "Global IP Shortage" is a solution looking for a problem...

Bet you $10 in 2020 we're all still using IPv4

All -

As IPv6 will be the future of Internet and I think I know much about IPv6 as I am studying for my CCIE.

I have a quick question and finding it very difficult to implement.

My company is hosting 2 sites for a small company. This company approached and said that they want there sites to be IPv6 ready. We enabled IPv6 protocol on the switches and Checkpoint firewall but it still does not work.

Am I missing something or it is not that easy as I am thinking?

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,
Yuri
