Also, it's not phoning home "by default" - I got the same prompt you did when upgrading an old ASA to 8.4.x - I got asked the question, and made my choice. It didn't enable it by default. I would have been quite annoyed if it was auto-enabled, but I'm OK with it asking me.
Definitely not like the other recent Cisco/Linksys enforce "upgrade" debacle. (going even further OT there)
