Mind teaser BVI two ports without cable attached for testing

Hi,

R1---------VPLS----------- R2

R1 is the VPLS headend and R2 is a Branch.

R2 port1: Vlan 100
R2 port 2: Vlan 101

There is no cable attached between port1 and port2 of R2.

My idea of this is to create a BVI on R2 and "no keepalive" on interfaces
(port1 and 2) and bridge them together.

Can someone please confirm that it does work?

Desired Result: If I attach 2 laptops to R1 Port1(100) and Port2(101), I
should be able to ping across a L2 domain.
