R1#debug ip ospf events
OSPF events debugging is on
R1#
*Mar 1 00:22:36.827: OSPF: Send hello to 224.0.0.5 area 1 on Serial0/0 from 10.1.12.1
*Mar 1 00:22:38.879: OSPF: Rcv hello from 2.2.2.2 area 1 from Serial0/0 10.1.12.2
*Mar 1 00:22:38.879: OSPF: Hello from 10.1.12.2 with mismatched Stub/Transit area option bit
R2 is configured for a stub and R1 is not , so from the above , you can know that area 1 is configured as a stub on R2
