I guess we will have to disagree or wait for Don speak back up.

If you understand spanning-tree in the context of the CCIE lab you know
that only switches(bridges) participate in STP. So in this case "server"
doesn't refer to some external box, but instead refers to the fact that the
switch is the VTP server.

Am I making an assumption? Probably, but I it is an educated assumption
based on.

A. Understanding the protocols he is asking about and how they interact.
B. Following this list for the last 4 years and seeing similar questions
asked repeatedly.
