TTBOMK, $300 to $400 US is about the cheapest L3 switch you will find that
has the OSPF features you're probably going to need. Even other vendors
that make a full featured L3 switch won't get any cheaper than a few
hundred $$ US. You may be better using a low port density router that can
trunk to a L2 switch for port density. One that comes to mind is MikroTik
which are fairly cheap and can be ordered outside of the US. They also have
just their RouterOS http://www.mikrotik.com/software.html which can be
loaded into a standard PC with a "router" card for much less. Other than
that, you're into Quagga/Zebra/Bird software packages which are open source
and free that turn a basic PC loaded up with ethernet NIC's into an OSPF
device, but I'm not sure if I would go as far as putting this into
production without extensive testing for performance due to a much lower
throughput than what a HP/Cisco/etc switch would give you.
