Marc,

Both your messages are quite correct. When preparing for a CCIE lab, it's
important to find that devil in those details ;-).

In the original question, QoS on the switch was enabled. We can tell that
by the absence of the warning message when running "show mls qos interface"
command. Had the QoS been disabled, this would've been the output:

------------------------------8<------------------------------
Cat4#show mls qos interface FastEthernet0/1
FastEthernet0/1
QoS is disabled. When QoS is enabled, following settings will be applied
trust state: not trusted
trust mode: not trusted
trust enabled flag: ena
COS override: dis
default COS: 0
DSCP Mutation Map: Default DSCP Mutation Map
Trust device: none
qos mode: port-based
------------------------------8<------------------------------

Note the line that warns about QoS being disabled.

That's on a Cat 3560. For those who are studying using 3550s, output is not
identical, but conveys a similar message:

------------------------------8<------------------------------
Switch#show mls qos interface FastEthernet0/1
FastEthernet0/1
QoS is disabled. pass-through mode
When QoS is enabled, following settings will be applied
trust state: not trusted
trust mode: not trusted
COS override: dis
default COS: 0
DSCP Mutation Map: Default DSCP Mutation Map
Trust device: none
------------------------------8<------------------------------
