In reality the CCIE SPv3 equipment requirements aren't that bad compared to the new CCIE DC :)

For CCIE SPv3 at INE we're making the topology as compatible as possible to use with Dynamips/GNS3. The vast majority of the topics you can do in regular IOS with the image c7200-advipservicesk9-mz.122-33.SRE3.bin. You will need to rent some time with the GSRs to learn the XR syntax but like I said the vast majority of the tasks can be done in GNS3.

In the actual lab they are using IOU for the 7200/7600 IOS. As publicly stated IOU doesn't support the ES20/ES40 card features like H-VPLS so that won't be tested in the lab. This means it's a moot point spend extra money to buy or to rent 7600s because you can get all the same features in software in Dynamips. Also I believe some vendors are actually renting out Dynamips based racks so I would be cautious of that as well. When in doubt do a "sh ver" ;)
