SNMP is definitely relevant to the list so don't apologize :)

Did you try an SNMPWALK? Different platforms and versions support different MIBs. There is also MIB explorer on Cisco's website. Your best bet though is probably to find the value you want on the CLI and then SNMPWALK and try to correlate the two, as there are literally thousands and thousands of MIBs.

Once you find your MIB you can use EEM to get, set, trap, or inform it if you want which is really useful for event driven tasks.
