Aaron,
even though it may be there in the show database output, a small
topology description would help understand your issue.
 From what I get, you are looking at two different things:
-The DN bit, which is kind of a tag for the core not to use its own
information that somehow (private CE-CE links or dual attached CEs)
got back.
-The MPLS OSPF routing checks (disabled by vrf-lite).

You might consider searching the mighty knowledge database that GS
archives are. You will find hits on those topics.
