As a side note, and you all probably already know but ... Shortest Path
Bridging (SPB) is the IEEE replacement for STP. Things will get a lot
easier when SPB is the default on all shipping switches. Given technology
today, why should we ever have to worry about loops? A lot of this basic
stuff should just work ...
Some vendors (Cisco and Juni for example) have not fully embraced SPB and
want to take customers down a proprietary / single vendor path (claim its
based on standards though ...). From a sales perspective, I really can't
blame them, they need to protect their install base ...
For this forum, I would suggest to request SPB in all the products you
deploy ... it solves these problems and also allows interop and multi
vendors. NANOG had some good intro and videos on SPB if anyone wanted to
learn more...
