Just use Wine or Crossover (http://www.codeweavers.com/) and you'll
never have to fire up a VM. The only Microsoft app that I had problems
with was Outlook but I'm using Thunderbird anyways.

I'm going to mess around tonight and see if I can get my vmware
infrastructure client to work in Wine. Seems some people have had
success getting it to run.
