I use excel. Used Ipplan before, looked at others. I manage a public
/19, so it's doable in excel with a methodical work ethic in keeping it
accurate. I have to drill all the way down to the hosts. My findings
were that any of the commercial apps or open source apps were lacking
something I needed, like the ability to take notes, or the ability to
reserve space for planning purposes and be displayed in the UI easily
and obviously reserved in the application for a future purpose specific
to a project. So any time I used a management app, I had to refer to a
spreadsheet for planning, so ditched the apps. I've seen this over and
over consulting as well. Its' a terribly frustrating problem, and I need
something custom built to move away from spreadsheets. There is
something always wrong with the management apps.
